Life of Pie! Excitement builds as we are set to star on the BBC

All of us are super excited ahead of Turner’s Pies starring in a BBC1 documentary that lifts the shortcrust pastry lid on the British Pie Awards.

We were delighted to have won class champion with our delicious steak and mature cheddar pie at the ceremony back in March and the story is featured on the Beeb show Life of Pies, which is screened on Monday 24th at 7.30pm.

The cameras followed Phil and some of the team at the British Pie Awards, which is seen as the pie industry’s event of the year, along with 200 bakers as they prepared for the annual event. It’s a competitive industry as firms battle for a share of the £1.2billion a year that Brits spend on pies — with 75 percent of us eating at least one a month.

“We really are super excited at the prospect of featuring on national TV. We’re obviously very serious about our business and we were delighted to win another award.”

“This came on the back of our outstanding success last year when our steak and ale pie was voted the supreme champion with judges giving it a score of 99/100 saying the perfect pastry parcel was a clear winner, beating 950 other pies.”

“But the cameras following us added a fun element to the whole process and we had loads of laughs during filming. And having seen a sneak preview of the documentary I think we come out of it very well indeed. I think our customers and friends and family will enjoy seeing us on TV but we must reassure them that they needn’t worry, we won’t be giving up our day jobs!”

Film-maker Anthony Bartram, who made the documentary, said it was a joy to help reveal the history of the third-generation firm which was founded in 1933 and tell ‘the lovely family story behind the business’.

*Life Of Pies is part of BBC One’s Our Lives series – a collection of programmes from across the UK celebrating the diversity of our society. Watch it on BBC1 on Monday 24th June at 7:30-8pm.
